Fresh Air and Exercise Nothing Better... Here at Rother Valley we have an extensive network of Nature trails and walks which all the family can enjoy.

Walking


The tracks and access roads around the park allow 2 basic circuits to be walked, which are flat, on surfaced roads and tracks, suitable for all ages and types of ability, a map of the park is available here (0.5MB pdf).

They are easily accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs

Route 1: Northern Lake total distance just over 1 mile. Flat and easily accessible.

Route 2: Northern Lake and Rother Valley Main Lake total distance just under 3 miles. Flat and easily accessible

Route 3: Northern Lake, Rother Valley Lake and Waleswood Bridleway total distance 5 miles, which includes muddy tracks, a climb of 60 metres (180 feet) and some unsurfaced tracks, which may be muddy in wet weather. For details of all three routes download this pdf (0.3MB), please note at the moment the routes are not way marked on the ground so take the map with you!

Highland CattleOther local walks include the Doorstep Walk no 4 and Doorstep Walk no 5 (both 1MB pdf).

The Park has links into two national routes for cycling and walking Sustrans and the Trans Pennine Trail.

Trans Pennine Trail



The Trans Pennine Trail is becomming very popular, we are a stamping point for those who are doing the trail in sections and collecting their journey points. We are located inbetween Chesterfield and Wath Upon Dearne for the stamping points for RSPB Old Moor and Chesterfield TIC. The Park Inn Hotel, Rotherham, Wath Upon Dearne is starting to put together packages for people wishing to undertake the Trans Pennine Trail and link to Rother Valley Country Park.



Route 4 : The Sculpture Trail (1.1MB pdf) which incorporates 10 pieces of art carved from wood along the 1.9 mile route. The Trails starts from outside the offices in the courtyard and leads you to the one of the best views of the park over to Derbyshire and Sheffield. (This is route not recommended for wheelchair users or pushchairs).

The Sheffield Country Walk follows pathways within the country park. The 53 mile circular route is waymarked from Pit House West, passed Northern Lake, over the main bridge to Meadowgate Lake / Nature Reserve, to Nethermoor Lake to Killamarsh.Further information on this is on the Long Distance Walkers Association Web Site: www.ldwa.org.uk/ldp/members/show_path.php?path_id=404 The Sheffield Rambers Asociation includes; Rother Valley Country Park in section 9 Treeton to Rother Valley Country Park and section 10 Rother Valley Country Park to Eckington wwww.sheffield.ramblers.care4free.net/SCW historical notes.htm
